Burlap Love

Burlap is a fabric that many would not consider something to include in home and accessory design, but lately burlap has become the 'new' must-have.  There are many different ways this material has been used, and since it is often times cheaper than most other fabrics, it's hard to go wrong with trying new design.
If you've been to an local coffee shops lately, it is almost guaranteed that you will find a purse made with the burlap coffee bags, priced at around $40-$50.  The great thing about the Internet is you can purchase your own coffee bean bags for as little as $2 at popular websites like eBay and Amazon.com.
Burlap is also a fabric you can purchase at a local fabric or craft store to make things like: chair covers, curtains, pillows, decorative flowers, etc.  To create some of these things all you need is the fabric, and then a patten that you can find free online.
With burlap you really can't go wrong, now it's just time to be creative.

  1. Ok so...I LOVE the burlap coffee bag idea for dining chair cushion covers! Currently though, my chairs don't have cushions. I'm trying to figure out how I could fix that. Do you know if you can add cushions if the chair isn't the "drop in" type that has pre-existing cushions? I'm thinking maybe cut a board the size of my current chair seat, cover that in batting and the burlap & screw it on. What do you think?

Thanks for the ideas! Love the blog :)

  2. Thanks for your comments! We are having fun...wait til you see what we did with burlap the other day...post coming soon :)

I think if you made a good pattern that fit your chairs out of wood that would work great. From there you could wrap the wood with either a thick batting or foam, and then cover it from there. The only thing I could see as a problem is if the chair seats have a divot and aren't flat. If they are flat after you cover them, it would be really simple to screw them in from the backside. I think it would look really good, and is a great idea to make chairs without cushions more comfortable. I would think it would actually be easier to assemble rather than having to take the pre-existing chair apart.

Let me know what you think, or if you need any other help assembling...if you do follow through, take some pictures of the process, and we will use it in our blog for an entry!
